The Importance of the Kingdom of God

The Importance of the Kingdom of God

The Kingdom of God was the focus of three of the most important Preacher’s in the Word of God. When they preached about the Kingdom of God they showed how important this subject was and still is to the success of the Church and each and every Believer’s spiritual growth and victory over sin, the world, the flesh and the devil.

The Lord Jesus during His forty day ministry, after His suffering when He moved among His disciples in His glorified body He focused upon the Kingdom of God: “Until the day in which He was taken up, after that He through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom He had chosen: To whom also He showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.” (Acts 1:2, 3)

The only man called an Evangelist in Scripture, Philip, also focused upon the Kingdom of God in his preaching: “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the Kingdom of God and the Name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.” (Acts 8:12)

The Apostle Paul, too, when his ministry was spoken of near the end of his ministry, the Kingdom of God was a key topic: “And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him, Preaching the Kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him. (Acts 28:31)

These three were itinerant Evangelists, reaching Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria and the uttermost parts of the world initially fulfilling the Great Commission given by the Lord in Acts 1:8. The Kingdom of God was a major theme of their preaching and should be one of the major themes of our instruction so that we might serve with power and the leading of the Holy Spirit as we walk with the King in the midst of His fully operating Kingdom.

First and foremost is the command that Jesus gave to His disciples early in His ministry: “Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33) Jesus also in His first message which He heralded like a town crier said: “Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God; And saying; The time is fulfilled and the Kingdom of God is at hand; repent ye, and believe the Gospel. (Mark 1:15)

Entering and experiencing the presence and power of the Kingdom of God was immediately available through the preaching of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was and is the most important topic in the New Testament, and the Kingdom of God was experienced by Believers in the O.T. as recorded in the Psalms and Proverbs although it was not labeled as such.

But, the writings of David and his son Solomon reveal that they too understood and experienced the presence and power of the LORD through meditation upon His Holy Word, but when the God-Man Jesus came Who is the Living Word Incarnate, He immediately offered entrance into His Kingdom to those who would repent and believe.

How often do we look back to the time when we initially entered the Kingdom of God when we were saved and now long for experiencing anew the great glory of the Lord’s presence as we walked with Him for an extended period of time rejoicing in His Truth with His people consuming the precious Word of God as a newborn babe hungers and thirsts for nourishment, devouring and consuming everything holy that came their way.

Those days are the time when we experienced what the Lord desires for every one of His children, but somehow the world, the flesh and the devil have another plan and we succumbed to the temptations and our minds become cluttered with the filth, the garbage, the electronic mass media of the 20th/21st century and the vision and power of our Lord becomes dim and or non-existent for the Holy One will not abide with His children who choose to abide with the unholy.

If we are to become like the Lord Jesus in the most expedient way, we must be renewed in the spirit of our minds by consuming the precious Word of God which in essence is the same as consuming Him Who is holy the Living Word of God! Unless this is the desire and practice of His children they are choosing instead to continue to digest the unholy!
Notice what the Lord said later to His disciples: “Unto you [His disciples] it is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables”(Mark 4:11). He continued to teach and instruct His disciple on the nature of the Kingdom of God mentioning it fifteen times in Mark’s Gospel.

He also revealed the presence and power of the Kingdom of God to His inner circle of disciples Peter, James and John when He took them “Up into a high mountain apart by themselves: and He was transfigured before them.” (Mark 9:2)
Although it was a brief and fleeting experience for these men, Peter would remember the impact of this time upon his life until the day he died: “But we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when there came such a voice to Him from the excellent glory: This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard when we with Him in the holy mount.” (II Peter1:16-18)

When we enter into the Kingdom of God we are privileged to see with new eyes, with a new mind and heart the Lord moving in our midst as His Spirit overwhelms us when we are regenerated by His power. And although that time is touched with the holiness of God and seems short in duration that is not the end of the story. The Lord wants us to experience His presence and great glory ongoing as we serve Him “For without Him we can do nothing” (John 15:5).

Else He would never command us to: “Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God”. The real issue of our experiencing His presence and power is what we are feeding our heart and soul. In His days on earth there was no Hollywood, no TV, no radio, and of course no electronic gadgetry or music-media designed to take away the mind of the child of God!

A brief review of history shows that the decline of the Church as the conscience of the USA accelerated when the rise of the above mentioned media outlets took place. When the 20th century was born women were thought to be immodest if their ankles were exposed. Today the vast majority of women dress as though they are competing for the most heads turned by men by exposing or outlining every possible body part they possess. This is just one of the decadent events that has not only crept into the Church but no longer needs to creep for immodesty/nakedness is openly flaunted by both sexes.

The so-called music industry has been thoroughly corrupted and perverted dumping filth into the minds of young and old through every available electronic gadget. The family now watches movies as a matter of course filling their minds with the unholy videos and words that comprise most of what is consumed. These sins of commission parallel the sins of omission by those who also refuse to actively utilize the precious Word of God in the lives of the children and parents alike. If REVIVAL is to come to the USA there must be a real soul-searching of hearts by the children of God…the only alternative is the continual taking in of this sinful and wicked digesting of the devil’s diet, rejecting the Word of God!

We, who are the Temple of the Holy Ghost have decided to bring into God’s Temple the unholy and profane. It has been “Given unto us to know the mysteries of the Kingdom”, but we will never know experientially the mysteries of the Kingdom until the King is upon His Throne which is in the Temple of God located in the hearts of His children. So, Drivers, what’s it going to be, the pure and powerful Word of God or the profane and perverted diet of the devil?

Seeking the Kingdom of God

Seeking the Kingdom of God

The Lord Jesus made it clear during the first major message to His disciples, which is called “The Sermon on the Mount”, that seeking the Kingdom of God should be the first priority for Believers: “But seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33).      This verse comes at the conclusion of an extended passage beginning in (v.24) ending in (v.34) which emphasizes the truth that the everyday needs of Believers must not be our primary concern, but instead we must “Seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things” referring to the needs of life will be given to us by faith in the Lord’s promises. They must not be the all consuming focus of the mind of the Believer but by faith we must seek and experience the presence of the Kingdom of God and walk with the King!

In every Kingdom there must be, first of all, a King, and a realm in which he rules, and subjects or people who are under his authority. The Lord Jesus Christ is that King, His realm is the Kingdom of God, the spiritual realm in which He now rules and moves about as the King, but His subjects, Believers, can only experience the actual spiritual blessings of His realm as they seek to enter by placing themselves under His authority through simple child-like obedience which is accomplished by faith.

In His realm there is no place for sin for sin will not abide in the presence of the Holy King. In His realm there is no sorrow, only rejoicing in the Spirit. In His realm there is awe inspiring worship of the Lord Jesus Christ for He is in complete control, communicating His Truth to the Believer through every means possible for He is King and every word, every movement, every single event that occurs speaks of and exalts His glory and control. It is through this ongoing Kingdom communication that the Lord directs the steps of His subjects/saints.

This is His Kingdom, He is the King of Glory and the Believer is able to see and experience His excellent power and blessing as they walk with Him, abiding in Jesus, knowing Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering. This is why men seek to take it by force and are successful in their desires, their hungering and thirsting for righteousness along with their complete earnestness by faith according to the Lord’s teaching in Matthew 11:12, 13:“And from the days of John the Baptist until now the Kingdom of Heaven suffered violence and the violent take it by force for all the Prophets and the Law prophesied unto John.”

It is through this full and complete surrender of the soul that the Believer enters and attains the marvelous miracle of the King’s communication for He knows your next thought, your next step, the way you are going to take and meets you there with His love and glory to usher you through the day by His indwelling and Living Word through the Holy Spirit’s presence and power. The King of glory will come in and control the Believer guiding their steps and circumstances when they seek and search for Him with all their heart! (Jeremiah 29:13)

These Kingdom of God Truths may well be what the Lord Jesus (Acts 1:3), and Paul the Apostle (Acts 28:31) were teaching when they are mentioned preaching the things concerning the Kingdom near the end of their earthly ministry. Philip the Evangelist (Acts 8:12) also chose to preach on the Kingdom of God when he brought salvation and revival to Samaria. The Kingdom of God and its impact upon Believers is obviously very important for Believers growth and understanding of what Truths the Lord has available for those who choose to walk with Him.and enter into the battle that is raging for the souls of men.

Herein is where mighty intercession takes place for Believers who are experiencing the vicious assault of Satan and his cohorts “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers o f the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12)

The Kingdom of God Defined

"The Kingdom of God Defined"

1.     The Kingdom of God comes not with observation (Luke 17:20)

2.     The Kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21)

3.     The Kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
       (Romans 14:17

4.     The Kingdom of God must  be sought after (Matthew 6:33)

5.     The Kingdom of God is entered through the second birth “Ye must be born again” (John 3:7)

6.     The Kingdom of God can be seen through the second birth: “Except a man be born again (born of water [physical birth] and of the Spirit [Spiritual birth]) he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)

7.     The Kingdom of God can be taken by force: “The Law and the Prophets were until John: since that time the Kingdom of God is preached, and every man presses into it.” (Luke 16:16)

Taking the Kingdom by Force

Taking the Kingdom by Force

If you desire to be a Soldier of the Cross, as soon as your day begins you must fervently seek to enter the ‘Kingdom of God’ with great earnestness and ardent zeal exerting the maximum physical and spiritual strength of your spirit, soul and body. This is what the Lord Jesus Christ described when He spoke these Words:
“And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence [as men earnestly/zealously seek to enter], and the violent [earnest/zealous seekers] take it by force” (Matthew 11:12)

This agrees with His earlier command in Matthew’s Gospel to His disciples:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Entering the kingdom of God occurs as we seek the King with all our heart by praying and spending time seeking and sensing His presence by faith. The key ingredient is a pure heart that is willing to spend the TIME necessary to enter into the Holiest by the Blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19) and seek the Lord with all your heart just as God told the prophet Jeremiah:
“Then shall ye call upon Me, and ye shall go and pray unto Me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek Me and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:12, 13)

The Lord Jesus gave us His example of the time and priority of seeking His Father:
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, He went out and departed into a solitary place and there prayed” (Mark 1:35)

He reveals this same great zeal and earnest desire to commune with His Father in private in order that He might receive His marching orders for each day. It was His FIRST priority! He went out into a place where He could spend TIME totally focused upon communing with His Father and His will.

He did it all for our example showing that He too as the God-Man went to His Father who supplied Him with the necessary comfort and communion, and, since the Lord Jesus was “In all points tempted like as we are yet without sin” it was also necessary for Him to receive instruction from our Father in order that He might be tempted/tested/perfected/matured as the God-Man in the area of testing/temptation:
“Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered; And being made perfect/mature as a Man, he became the Author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him; Called of God an High Priest after the order of Melchizedec.” (Hebrews 5:8-10)

The previous verse shows that it was during the Lord Jesus’ agony in the garden when He communed with the Father concerning the Cross and His coming suffering for our sin that His perfection/maturity as the God-Man would become complete although He was never disobedient nor did He ever sin:
“Who in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to save Him from death, and was heard in that He feared” (Hebrews 5:7).

So, as we, who are also called of God as priests, yield ourselves to Him in order that He might make us perfect/mature/complete as His priests, we must begin our day with an intense desire and an earnest zeal to ‘Take the kingdom by force’ and walk with the King throughout the day as we minister to others for His sake!

This walking/communing with the King on a continual basis can only be accomplished through the power of His Holy Spirit Who lives within us. But, it is also necessary to be obediently filled with the Word of God in order to be filled with the Holy Spirit as the Lord Jesus taught! You want to be filled with the Spirit?...Be filled with the Word of God!: “The Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit they are Life.” (John 6:63)

This one simple phrase from the lips of our Lord indicates the importance of internalizing the Word of God. It is the only way to feed the Holy Spirit of Christ the diet He so longingly wants and deserves! He lives within each one of us who have been born-again/born from above (John 3:1-7) according to the Scripture!

Paul also indicated the necessity of internalizing the Word of God in order to be filled with the Holy Spirit:
“And be not drunk with wine wherein is excess but be filled with the Spirit: Speaking to yourselves in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:18-20)
“Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing on another in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever you do in word or deed do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.” (Colossians 3:16, 17)

These parallel passages show the necessity of the Word of God being internalized in order for the servant of God to minster effectively underlining the necessity of marking, memorizing and meditating on the Word of God. This supplies the Holy Spirit with the necessary tool to harmonize those songs and hymns and spiritual songs which is the internal singing ministry of the saint! (Psalm 119:54)

From Moses through the Psalms and Prophets it is explicitly taught that if we expect to please God, we must
Mark, Memorize and Meditate on the precious Word of God:
“And these Words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart” (Deuteronomy 6:6)
“This Book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shall meditate therein day and night that thou may observe to do all that is written therein, for then thou shall make thy way prosperous and then thou shall have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)
“But his delight is in the Law of the Lord and in His Law does he meditate day and night.” (Psalm 1:3)
“Thy Words were found and I did eat them, and Thy Word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart.” (Jeremiah 15:16)
“Meditate upon these things, give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.” (I Timothy 4:15)

These verses are just a sample of the dozens of verses in Scripture that show God’s emphasis upon having the Word of God in our hearts. David’s often memorized passage is especially important to young men who want to serve the Lord:
“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to Thy Word.  With my whole heart have I sought Thee: O let me not wander from Thy Commandments: Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee.” (Psalm 119:9-11)

The soul that has been freshly cleansed by the Word of God through the precious Blood of Jesus Christ
(I John 1:7-9) is a soul that can be greatly used by Lord! Keeping fresh accounts continually will give the servant of Christ great power from the Holy Spirit as He leads and directs in ministry to others.

This practice is a must if the servant of God is to win ‘Souls for Jesus’ which is our battle-cry! That leads us into the spiritual battle that we all face if we want to be on the front lines for the Lord. Our “Adversary the devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour” (I Peter 5:8) at all times, in all places, with all of his wiles.

But, we have the victory! The Lord Jesus Christ has won the war with the devil on the Cross and all we have to do is enter the battle and clean up after Him in the small skirmishes He leads us into as we go to battle for Him. Because we are in a fierce spiritual battle it is necessary that we listen to His voice and not be deceived.

There are many voices screaming for the servant of God’s attention. The voice of the world causes many to fall by seeking after things in the world’s garbage pit…it is all RUBBLE and will be burned up in the day of His Coming. So, if you have yielded yourself to serve the Lord you must reject the allurement of the world!
(II Timothy 2:3, 4)

The voice of the flesh goes to battle against the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:17) causing the would-be servant to succumb to the desires/lusts of the flesh (I John 2:15-17). If he falls to either of these two enemies he will open himself up to the many ‘Doorways of the Devil’. But, the surrendered servant can face this daunted enemy.

The voice of the enemy comes in varying forms, but if we commit to internalizing the Word of God we have ‘The Offensive Ammunition’ (Ephesians 6:17, 18) to defeat the devil for the Word of God and Prayer supply us with the ability to effectively try the spirits and fend off the devil’s attempts to bring us down:
‘Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits to see whether they be of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God; And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is  not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is in the world. Ye are of God little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God: he that knows God hears us; he that is not of God hears not us. Hereby know we the spirit of Truth, and spirit of error.’ (I John 4:1-6)

The soldier of Christ will be victorious in the army of the King IF he is willing to “Crucify the flesh” (Galatians 5:24) by “Dying daily” (I Corinthians 15:31) thereby “Taking the kingdom by force”. This seemingly monumental spiritual task becomes a light thing as we draw upon the power of the Holy Spirit through internalizing the Word of God which supplies the faith necessary to give complete victory.

The Apostle John explains and underlines this necessity for victory over our ultimate enemy, ‘The wicked one’ through the indwelling Word of Christ:
“I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong [in the Lord and the power of His might], and the Word of God abides in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.” (I John 2:14b)

In summary, it is clear that if we desire to be victorious servants of the King of kings we must first be in continual communion with the Father by consuming the Word of God which will give us the sure-fire victory in the Lord’s battle for souls. As we daily spend the TIME necessary to “Take the kingdom by force” so that we enter and walk with the King in His Kingdom through the leading of His Holy Spirit we can effectively win and minister to those the Lord sends our way fulfilling our “Souls for Jesus” purpose throughout our day!
